Give To God

"Here, show me the coin used for the tax.” When they handed him a Roman coin, he asked, “Whose picture and title are stamped on it?” “Caesar’s,” they replied.
“Well, then,” he said, “give to Caesar what belongs to Caesar, and give to God what belongs to God.”
Matthew 22:19-21
All American’s are under our government’s authority.  Some of us are a portion of this government’s authority given our career.  Living in a country that prides itself as a “rule of law, not of man”, we are under the authority of the law.  Whether we like them or not.
As Christian under this government’s authority we are called by God to be good law abiding citizen. In fact be an exemplary citizen. Paying your taxes, not littering, and (oh I’m going to get bad mail for this) driving the posted legal speed limit. We are to do this as unto the Lord. You are acting as a law abiding citizen because you belong to the Kingdom of God.

So, be a patriot and be the best patriot you can be as long as it does not violate God’s law and your representation as a Servant of the Lord and a child of God.  As a child of God and a Servant of the Lord you have even a greater responsibility. To intercede and seek God’s mercy and blessing on behalf of your country.  You are a citizen of America but you belong to the Kingdom of God.

Duty to Caesar or government is surpassed by duty to God. “‘Give to Caesar what is Caesar’s and to God what is God’s’”.  So, we need to ask ourselves, ‘What is due to my government and what is due to my God?”  The first question is fairly straightforward.  The governments over us lay that out in the law and remind us often of what those things are.  What is due God?

"It is God who enables us, along with you, to stand firm for Christ. He has commissioned us, and he has identified us as his own by placing the Holy Spirit in our hearts as the first installment that guarantees everything he has promised us."

Everything.
