How Do We Pray
"do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God."
"Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you."
"In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.""
Life is hard. I think it really stinks sometimes. I don’t think I’m the only one who feels this way. Work, family, finances, health, house, car, marriage, friendships, etc. It seems that something is always broken. A proverb of mine is, if you think you know someone who has it all together then you really don’t know them. Jesus tells us that this world is hard. But, he also tells us that he has overcome the world.
Like the armor that God provides us to stand, he also provides us the means to deal with the trouble. We are told to pray “without ceasing” or “at all times”. As believers we can have constant communion with God. Jesus has overcome the world. When we face the trouble of this life, as children of God we can remove our anxious thoughts by making our requests known to God at the moment of need. By having constant communion with God removing our anxious thoughts we can rejoice always and give thanks in every circumstance.
We are to pray constantly. We pray constantly by having real fellowship with our Father, with the Spirit that lives with us, and with our Lord and Savior Jesus the Christ. Having time set apart for prayer is a great discipline. Meeting together as the body of Christ for prayer is encouraged in the Scriptures. These are not the only ways in which we are to pray. We cannot pray constantly in these ways. We pray constantly by remaining mindful of the nearness of the Lord and sharing our troubles and joys with him.
- What is troubling you today?
- What brings you joy today?
- Have you shared these with the Lord?
- Today remember that the Lord is always present and cares.
