Freedom From Worry

On the seventh day some of the people went out to gather, but they found none. And the Lord said to Moses, “How long will you refuse to keep my commandments and my laws? See! The Lord has given you the Sabbath; therefore on the sixth day he gives you bread for two days. Remain each of you in his place; let no one go out of his place on the seventh day.” So the people rested on the seventh day.

So don’t worry, saying, ‘What will we eat? ’ or ‘What will we drink? ’ or ‘What will we wear?’ For the Gentiles eagerly seek all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first the kingdom of God  and his righteousness, and all these things will be provided for you.

Seeing around the corner into our future is beyond our view. Sometimes I even struggle to see or understand what life is throwing at me today. Jesus tells us in Matthew 6 about the care the Father has for the birds of the air and the wild flowers of the field.  Given the Father’s care for creation He says,  “So don’t worry”.  If we believe that God does indeed provide, we will not spend all of our time trying to provide for ourselves. (Check your heart before working like crazy—who are you depending on to provide for your needs?)

Our limited visibility is not cause for despair. Just the opposite. We trust in the God who sees all of our tomorrows perfectly—and who knows what we need as we face the challenges ahead. The apostle Paul knew this. That’s why Paul encourages us with hopeful words, “We live by faith, not by sight” (2 Cor. 5:7).

When we trust God with our day as well as our unseen tomorrows, we don’t need to worry about anything life throws at us. We walk with Him and He knows what is ahead; He is strong enough and wise enough to handle it.
